Individual houseplants release approximately 97% of water uptake through transpiration from leaf stomata. When multiple plants are grouped together, their collective transpiration creates a localized humidity bubble 10-20% higher than ambient room conditions. This natural microclimate mimics the understory conditions Calatheas evolved in, where dense vegetation creates naturally humid pockets without mechanical intervention.
How to Fix It

Group 3-5 humidity-loving plants (Calatheas, ferns, peace lilies, prayer plants) within a 2-3 foot radius. The transpiration from all plants contributes to the shared microclimate.

Arrange plants at varying heights using plant stands, shelves, or hanging planters. This maximizes leaf surface area exposure and creates layered humidity zones.

Position the grouping away from air vents, drafty windows, or heating sources that disrupt the humid microclimate with dry air currents.

Place the most humidity-sensitive varieties (Calathea orbifolia, white fusion) at the center of the grouping where humidity is highest, with more tolerant varieties on the perimeter.

How to Prevent It
