Low Light on fiddle leaf fig
What's Happening
In many northern hemisphere homes, a North-facing window provides less than 500 foot-candles of light, which is below the survival threshold for Ficus lyrata, leading to small, pale leaves and leggy stems.
How to Fix It
- 1
Move to an East or South-facing window where the plant can receive bright indirect light.
- 2
If no bright window is available, add a full-spectrum LED grow light (e.g., Sansi or Barrina) placed 12-18 inches above the canopy.
- 3
Rotate the plant 90 degrees every week to ensure even growth.
How to Prevent It
Use a light meter app to ensure the plant receives at least 200-400 foot-candles for maintenance, and 1000+ for active growth.
