Thrips on monstera deliciosa
What's Happening
Thrips have a complex lifecycle (2-3 weeks) where eggs are laid inside leaf tissue, making them invisible to surface wipes. Their microscopic size and preference for hiding in Monstera fenestrations lead to recurring infestations if only treated once.
How to Fix It
- 1
Isolate the plant immediately to prevent airborne spread.
- 2
Wash leaves thoroughly every 2 days to dislodge adults and larvae.
- 3
Apply treatment (Neem oil, insecticidal soap, or systemic granules) weekly for a MINIMUM of 6 consecutive weeks to catch all hatching generations.
- 4
Avoid direct sun after Neem application to prevent phytotoxicity.
What You'll Need
How to Prevent It
Quarantine new plants for 4 weeks. Maintain high humidity (60%+) and strong airflow, which deter thrips colonization.
