Leggy Grow Light Supplementation on pothos
What's Happening
Indoor environments often provide insufficient natural light, especially north-facing rooms or during winter months when daylight hours drop below 10. Pothos under ambient room light (50-150 fc) cannot photosynthesize sufficiently, resulting in progressive etiolation.
How to Fix It
- 1
Select full-spectrum LED grow lights at 4000-6500K color temperature
- 2
Position light 12-18 inches above plant canopy
- 3
Set timer for 12-14 hours daily to supplement natural light
- 4
Target 2000-3000 lux at leaf surface (200-300 fc)
- 5
Rotate plant weekly for even exposure
How to Prevent It
Install grow lights proactively in fall before winter light levels drop; maintain 12-16 hour photoperiod year-round; replace LED bulbs every 3-4 years as output degrades.
