Leggy on string of hearts
What's Happening
Ceropegia woodii etiolates when light drops below 2000 lux for extended periods, causing rapid internode elongation as the plant searches for light. Unlike healthy trailing growth (3-5cm internodes), leggy growth shows 8-15cm gaps between leaves with pale, smaller foliage.
How to Fix It
- 1
Move plant to brighter location immediately—south or west-facing window ideal
- 2
Prune leggy sections back to last compact node with healthy leaf cluster
- 3
Root pruned cuttings via butterfly method to create new full plants
- 4
Increase light gradually over 7-10 days to prevent sun shock
- 5
New growth should emerge with 3-5cm internode spacing within 2-3 weeks
How to Prevent It
Provide minimum 4-6 hours bright indirect light (2000-4000 lux) daily. Rotate pot weekly for even light distribution and maintain 12-18 inches from window for optimal exposure without direct sunburn.
