Edema on zz plant
What's Happening
Translucent or water-soaked brown spots on ZZ leaves occur when the plant takes up water faster than it can transpire it, causing leaf cells to rupture (edema). This is common after a heavy watering following a long drought.
How to Fix It
- 1
Stabilize watering: Avoid flood and famine cycles; water when slightly dry rather than bone-dry if the plant shows edema.
- 2
Airflow: Improve ventilation around the plant to aid transpiration.
- 3
Low light warning: Edema is more common in low light where transpiration is slow.
What You'll Need
How to Prevent It
Move to brighter indirect light and ensure soil is well-draining to prevent root pressure buildup.
