Peace lilies are particularly susceptible to moisture stress because they evolved in tropical understory environments with consistent humidity (70-90%) and well-draining but moisture-retentive forest floor soils. Their fibrous root systems require both consistent moisture AND adequate oxygen—conditions that are challenging to replicate in indoor containers where soil compaction and poor drainage create extremes of either drought or waterlogging.
