Toxicity on zz plant
What's Happening
ZZ Plant contains calcium oxalate crystals (raphides) in all plant tissues—leaves, stems, roots, and sap. When plant material is chewed or sap contacts mucous membranes, these microscopic needle-like crystals penetrate tissue causing immediate mechanical irritation, inflammation, and burning sensation. The Araceae family is characterized by this defense mechanism; Zamioculcas zamiifolia produces particularly high concentrations. Sap exposure can cause contact dermatitis in sensitive individuals. Unlike systemic toxins, the reaction is localized and mechanical rather than chemical poisoning.

How to Prevent It
