Root Rot Hydrogen Peroxide on string of pearls
What's Happening
Advanced root rot in String of Pearls involves anaerobic bacterial and fungal pathogens (Pythium, Fusarium) that colonize compromised root tissue. Standard trimming alone may leave residual pathogen load. Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) provides oxygenation and oxidative sterilization to eliminate remaining pathogens and jumpstart recovery.
How to Fix It
- 1
Unpot and trim all rotted roots as standard protocol
- 2
Prepare 3% hydrogen peroxide solution (standard pharmacy concentration)
- 3
Soak remaining healthy roots for 20 minutes to oxygenate tissue and kill surface pathogens
- 4
Rinse thoroughly with distilled water to remove residual peroxide
- 5
Dust cut ends with cinnamon powder as additional antifungal barrier
- 6
Allow 48-hour callusing period before repotting in fresh dry mix
- 7
Wait 7 days after repotting before first watering to ensure wound sealing
How to Prevent It
Use H2O2 prophylactically when unpotting any String of Pearls showing stress signs. Maintain sterile tools when trimming. Quarantine recovering plants for 30 days post-treatment.
