Peduncles (flower spurs) are specialized woody stems that emerge from leaf axils and produce Hoya's characteristic umbellate flower clusters. Unlike most flowering plants that create new bloom structures each season, Hoya peduncles are perennial—capable of producing flowers repeatedly for 5-10+ years. Damage to peduncles (pruning, physical breakage, or removal) permanently eliminates that blooming site, reducing the plant's flowering potential.
